When you got your license, you gave me my first ride. Our family was poor. We didn’t own a car. What a thrill that was even when you backed over a cement curb and had to call the tow truck or when you would scream hysterically when spiders emerged from behind your sun visor.
I’m sorry I laughed at you, when you fell off our college float and rolled down main-street in front of a parade of thousands. It is still funny though!
For a few years life separated us, but only in miles not in heart. Re-united, we now had families of our own. Life was extremely chaotic but you invited me out to church and here I made the best decision of my life, a renewed commitment to follow Christ.
I remember when you brought me groceries when we didn’t have enough to eat. You passed hand-me-downs for my children to wear. You spent countless hours on the phone listening to me pour out my heart and sometimes you cried.
I remember your face when I woke up from out patient surgery that didn’t go too well. I remember you there at the birth of my third child along with my husband who lay passed out on the floor.
You sent me flowers during a difficult time. No one had ever done this for me before.
After a visit over tea, you ended up driving me home when I thought your kitchen table was moving by itself. I had an inner ear disturbance and was too dizzy to drive.
I’m sure you have spent countless hours in prayer for me because that’s the type of friend you are.
Again, although separated by miles, you will always remain my dear, dear friend.
Thank you.
