Scientists have confirmed that nothing can survive without water. Even single cell organisms require water to survive. The earth is 70 percent water and our bodies are about 90 percent water.
If the oceans, lakes and rivers all dry up, the earth will eventually die. The trees would not be able to grow and produce the life giving oxygen we all need. Animals will not be able to drink and get nutrients which will deplete our food source. The earth will turn into a mars like planet, covered in dust and become more of a dry, desolate place than the beautiful, blue planet we inhabit today.
Likewise, it is very easy for our bodies to get dehydrated. If we work out in the hot sun for hours at a time, without drinking enough fluids, we can become dehydrated, causing us to become sick or even die in extreme cases. We have to have water in order to thrive and survive. Lack of water will cause our organs to slowly shut down. We could experience light-headedness, faint and become extremely sick. A complete lack of water will kill us.
Just as our physical bodies need the water of life, our spiritual bodies need the water of life too. Pure water will not quench our spiritual needs; we have to get this from a greater place. Only God can provide the spiritual enriching, life giving water that we so desire and need. This is not in the form of a liquid but in the form of the Word of God.
We have faith that the water will run from the faucet the moment we turn it on. There is no doubt in our mind that water will be there when we’re ready for a drink. This is not always the case in our faith with God. Sometimes we feel that the well has run dry and God has somehow overlooked us. This is a lie from the enemy. God never overlooks us. He knows exactly what He is doing, and where He wants us every second of our lives.
In order to have the river of living water, as the scripture states, we have to have a faith in God; there is no substitute, and no other way to receive it. Faith does not mean believing about God; it means believing in Him. Are we absolutely positive that we believe in Him and what He is doing? Do we turn all of our problems, no matter how big or small, over to Him? Do we believe that His outcome will be better than anything we are able to plan?
Faith in God is complete surrender, an incredible and flawless trust. We should never second guess Him or think He is wrong. He never is.
