Carelessly, I let the brilliant sunshine pierce my eyes until I can barely see anything else but light, pure light. If only I could travel on sunbeams to the source of all light, perhaps I’d find the answer to my never-ending quest to know my real purpose.
It seems like I’ve been paddling a canoe in the wrong direction all my life, while speedboats race past me on the way to the finish line. I concede. Then, I remember where I’ve come from and where I’m going.
I can’t be motivated any more by cheering crowds urging me to join the flow of the race. Their view of the prize is far different from mine now. Instead, I’d rather seek adventure in solitude, manning a sailboat tossed any way the wind blows.
Perhaps it is “not knowing” the outcome that is so intriguing, so challenging, so worth the risk. When I can ride the crest of the storm and finally sleep in the harbor of your tranquility, I have found “me.”
The end now is certainly not what I once expected it to be. It’s no longer a figment of another’s painting of my life. It’s my vision now because it’s your vision too. You’ve given me courage to have faith that I’m headed in the right direction.
I’ve seen the end, the source of the light. It’s just the beginning, and it is beautiful.
