In today’s society, we hear the made up word “bestie,” referring to a claimed best friend. The letters bff are also used; however I’m still trying to get a positive definition for bff, even though I understand that it, too, has to do with one that can be described as a dear friend.
I have a friend, who is very dear to me; one that I would call my “bestie.” We have been friends for almost forty (40) years. For a number of years we attended the same church, and many a Sunday, after church, we would spend hours discussing the day’s sermon, and/or, a particular prayer or song that ministered to us. Not only was this friend dear to me, but her whole family! There are so many things over the years, that we went through together, that I don’t have paper enough to list them. Today, we don’t see each other as often, nor do we communicate as much; but, we have agreed that whether we talk once a week, or once a year, we will always be friends. I have learned that true friendship is a lasting relationship.
Discussing the word friend, invariably, one statement comes to mind: “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” This tells me that friends are always there for each other, no matter what. This statement also brings to my mind, and heart, the greatest friendship I have; and, that is my friendship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He chose me, and all I have to do is believe that He did. He is the one that I trust above all! The Book of Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct thy path.”
Thinking of another statement on being a friend, “If you and your friend have to agree on everything; then, someone is not needed.” No two people think just alike. Of course, this statement, in no way could ever apply to the friend relationship we have with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; for His Word is not about opinions that is, what another thinks. His Word is truth. The Bible also tells us that “In Him we live, move and have our being.” I am sure most have heard and sang the songs, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus;” and, “Jesus Is All The World To Me;” which ends with the words, “He’s my friend.”
I love writing poems, and here is one I wrote and deicated to my “bestie,” many years ago.
MY FRIEND
I have a friend who talks to me
About her dreams and plans.
She tells me that she’s never longed
For things, all rich and grand!
She says her heart’s desire
Consists of so much more;
And, how she only found it out,
When Jesus knocked at her door.
She tells me then, and only then;
Did her life’s plans become complete
For, she has learned that one day
She’ll get to sit at Jesus’ feet.
Surely, she is one that I’ll always call my “bestie,” for both she and I have learned the true meaning of Friendship. Better yet, we’ both learned that Jesus wants to be BESTIE for the whole world!

How blessed to still have that "bestie" after all these years. Connect with her more, if you can...I wish my best friend was still with me. It's a blessing from God to have such a friend.
However, even more of a blessing to have Jesus as our best of besties!
Excellent job...beautiful poem. And, just a great story.
Thanks.
God bless~
The poem also added a special personal touch.
You did well.
