Today is the day that started many years ago.
Today is the day I must fill before on I go.
Tomorrow is the day that starts after today is over.
So today’s memories I have to fill before on I go.
I cannot live yesterday’s memories.
I cannot change them either.
What then is the purpose of a memory?
Yes, to guide my steps for a new memory to make.
What is the purpose of a memory?
Yes, to strengthen my steps in courage lost.
I can’t live yesterday’s memory but it lives on in me.
I can only live today and create memory by how I live.
The memories I want to live with tomorrow,
Is the life I must live today.
So my life today must be put on course.
The road to build is up to me. It’s my choice.
I can’t live yesterday over. That day is over forever.
Its memory may linger but to live it again, no never.
Today’s end is what I am thinking of
To kill its memory would never do.
So I choose carefully the path I walk.
Since I will never again this way walk.

My favorite lines were the first ones. Thanks for sharing!
I think most poetry, especially free verse, benefits from the use of imagery--something to appeal to the readers' senses so that they have something to hang the poem on.
I love the simplicity and tenderness of this poem.
