Please peel and slice your fruits and place them in the bowl.
Spelling
You can say the alphabet with fruit. A for avocado, or alligator pear. B for banana, a subtropical fruit. C for cherimoya, related to the soursop. Date, (although there doesn’t seem to be an E), fig, gooseberry, haw, (and maybe not an I), jackfruit, kiwi, lemon and loquat, mango, medlar, and melon.
Vocabulary
You can feed a bat with fruit. The fruit bat, according to Meriam Webster, is "any of a suborder of large Old World fruit-eating bats of warm regions." I suppose you can feed a fly, because Webster also comments on the fruit fly within the F-R-U-I-T section of the dictionary. "Any of various small two-winged flies whose larvae feed on fruit or decaying vegetable matter." I wonder if the fly prefers the fruit or the vegetable. And can she tell the difference? A tomato, after all, is a "usually large rounded and red or yellow pulpy berry."
Recitation
You can orate with fruit. A fruit cake is "a rich cake containing nuts, dried or candied fruits, and spices." Would a fruit bat like a fruit cake? Would a fruit bat share a fruit cake with a fruit fly? If a frugal fruit bat favored a frosted fruit cake would the fruit bat frown upon or feel free to forgive a fruit fly who frowardly fixed his eye on the fruit bat’s fruit cake?
Geography
You can tour the world with fruit. If you’re beginning from Europe, you may find apples in the United Kingdom. Or you may prefer gooseberries. In the Mediterranean, look for olives. You may find pomegranate in Iran, though I don’t recommend that. You’ll find mangos in Burma, and kiwi in China and you ought to go to Paraguay for pineapple. (It’s just not the same in Finland.)
Mathematics
You can calculate with fruit. Stand in the produce section of the grocery store and cipher the difference between ninety-nine cents a pound for green grapes and nearly two dollars a pound for seedless red. You may also want to figure the weight and cost of a bag of oranges as compared to the weight and cost of individual oranges. Nine times out of ten the individual oranges will save you money.
History
You can repent of fruit. Eve found a fruit she was forbidden to eat. "What is this that thou hast done?" (Genesis 3:13, KJV.) Now when you pick a raspberry, now when you pick from a vine--thorns and thistles bite your hands, reminding you that when God has said thou shalt not eat you must choose another fruit.
Review
Avocado, banana, cherimoya, date, Eve.
