In his handsome face.
His smile warmed my heart
In a special place.
I saw more perfection -
As his wisdom was shared.
He appeared so sincere.
I felt he really cared.
Then, I saw weakness -
And an insecure soul.
Impatience and jealousy
Each played a major role.
I felt compassion -
He was sad and afraid.
Would things have been different
If he had stayed?
I felt understanding -
For life is unfair
And those who are lonely
Seek acceptance everywhere.
I felt love return -
And I longed to reach out
To show what kindness
And real love are about.
I felt such regret -
For he died far away
And the moment was gone
To send love his way.
Now, I see perfection -
When I look to God above.
He is the perfect Father
Who fills me with His love.
I feel such complete love -
For this Father is The One
Who provided it all
When He gave me His dear Son!
I dedicate this poem to the memory of my father. After all the roller coaster emotions, the one that emerges is love. With the realization that God is the only "Perfect Father" comes the ability to have great compassion for our Earthly dads. As the Head of His Family, God is the only One who will never disappoint us or let us down. And, while many dads seek to follow God's designs, we know there is only one "Perfect Father".
