Tender Shepherd, gently lead
His pastures green, sheep freely feed
Refresh my soul, by waters still
In dewy fields, on grassy hill
Watchful Shepherd, snares unseen
His loving eyes, intensely keen
Misty nightmares, lurid dreams
Alert, anticipating; He redeems
Skillful Shepherd, through obsidian night
Fear dispelling beams of light
He saves me from the lion’s tooth
His invincible rod speaks perfect Truth
Gentle Shepherd, guide feet that stray
Blackish night obscures the way
His staff of comfort brings me back
Protect from evil’s looming attack
Powerful Shepherd, predators prowl
Distant sound of wolfing howl
Midst sharply rising canyon walls
Mournful songs and raven calls
Mighty Shepherd where jackals jeer
Subdues slinking panther; paw of bear
Offering His strength, capable arm
No dread of shadows nor fear of harm
Loving Shepherd, though nightfall comes
No singing lark or cheerful hums
Over dusky, somber, starless skies
Shepherd’s light, hush anxious cries
Merciful Shepherd, His presence near
Careful fingers, answer a single tear
He carries me closely upon his heart
His courage found; His joy impart
Faithful Shepherd, readies His tablelands
On mountaintop, with outstretched hands
Morning breaks; haunts erase
Lush and sweet, a higher place.
