I had a dream of despair
Where I wandered through the meadow of meanness
And picked a flower of futility
That took me into
the valley of vanity
where I came upon a stream of sorrowfulness
There I collected a bushel of bitterness
and some snapdragons of sadness
From the creek of craftiness
I filled a pail with pride
I jumped into a deep pool of depression
With an evil laughter, I added evergreen of envy
to my heavy heart of hopelessness
I suddenly stepped on a stone of stupidity
As I fell I realized my life was lost
I looked at the sky of swirling sorrow
in the clouds of confusion
In the midst I saw a glimmer of gladness
I rose to my feet and went forward
until I found a path of peacefulness
I followed it to a curve of calmness
and came to the road of righteousness
I could not believe my eyes
for I saw a field of forgiveness
edged with eternal life
I picked a lily of love
and gathered a handful of healing
I put these in my sachet of success
along with a hosta of happiness
As I continued along I saw a juniper of joy
I added that with a measure of meekness
I now meandered through the meadow of morality
and picked a flower of faithfulness
That took me into the valley of victory
where I came upon the stream of sweetness
There I collected a bushel of bliss
and some snapdragons of salvation
From the creek of compassion
I filled my pail with patience
I jumped into the deep pool of perseverance
With glee, I added the evergreen of eternity
to my now-happy heart of hope.
I sat upon the stone of serenity
beside the waters of wisdom
To the Lord of my life I spoke
asking forgiveness and favor
Jesus wrapped me in His cloak of comfort
and said, “Eternal life is My gift with gladness
come into a right relationship with me.”
As I awoke from my dream in a daze
I knew that Jesus had filled my heart with hope
Passing through each dawning day
I call upon Him in prayer and patience
He is always faithful and forgiving
The perfect answer to my times of trouble and triumph
