As I begin to speak slowly so Jeremiah can record every word, all the grandchildren gather around. My children and their spouses also stay nearby to hear of this event once again, perhaps for the final time.
I remember every detail of the event as if it just happened, even though it’s been many years. I was walking in the garden in the wee hours of morning. It was too early for the sun to rise, and the night had barely any moonlight. The fog was thick so it was difficult to see clearly for any distance. I nearly tripped over three men sleeping. I was about to waken them when I felt a bright light to my right. I say felt, because it was more than a visual experience. As I turned toward the light, I saw a man hunched over in deep prayer, tears streaming down His face. As I watched, the face of the praying man changed to an expression of such peace. His clothes and body became dazzlingly bright, even more than the sun at noon. He stood tall, yet humbled. I gazed upon Him, awestruck that I was able to see such a bright light without hurting my eyes. Two men suddenly appeared with Him. Without anyone telling me, I knew that I was looking upon Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. It was at that moment that I believed that Jesus Christ is God.
Children, remember, I had seen Jesus before, on the streets, healing and preaching. I often drew near to Him, for something about Him called to my spirit. I wasn’t sure who He really was, but I knew I needed to be near Him.
Now, in the garden, I found myself falling to my knees, speechless, and horrified at the unclean state of my soul. How could I be this close to God and live? Yet Christ looked at me through the fog and darkness. He smiled at me. Jesus said, “I am the fulfillment of the law. Through me to the Father is the only way to eternal life. You have been cleansed, forgiven of your sins, and healed from your past.” He knew what I was thinking.
At that moment, my heart, soul, and body belonged to Christ Jesus. I followed Him the rest of His life on this earth, mourning in His death, and rejoicing greatly in His glorious resurrection.
Now I simply wait for my time here to end, so that I may join my Lord, in the fulfillment of His glory. Praise be to My Lord.
