Not meaning to lose it, but tired of defending her faith, Ella snapped back, “I’m positive! And don’t ask me again because the answer is just going to be the same!â€
Now, on top of secretly questioning her own understanding and praying she got it right, she would have to repent for her anger and the disrespect she had just shown to her mother. Why did this have to be so hard?
There were many things that Ella struggled with, her faith usually wasn’t one of them. From early on she could recall asking God questions that no one else seem to have time for, or if they did, their answers didn’t satisfy. Not even at an early age.
She treasured each and every teachable moment that the Lord had used in her life, even thought some of them had cost her dearly. It’s funny how some of the most honored in the eyes of man, can sometimes misunderstand the intents of another’s heart. The knowing that she had been led gave her the validation she needed and she would move on.
Ella closed her eyes and remembered some of those times. Thanking God out loud for each one helped her to re-focus and draw upon the strength that was hers, if she would believe for it. Doubt was something she had learned not to even consider. The minute she would consider that the word might not work in every situation, fear would come and if left unattended, defeat would surely follow. The best solution she had found to stop it in it’s tracks...was to immediately declare the word that stood in opposition to it.
Accounts of her childhood and from her past kept coming and only reinforced her commitment to trust her God even more. It was what she needed. To bless the Lord and not forget all of His benefits. She smiled as she recognized that in order to stretch and grow her faith, the things that the Lord asked her to trust Him for, were going to be a little harder each time.
Ella sheepishly made her way back to the living room that she had stormed out of moments ago. “Mama forgive me. I’m sorry that I snapped at you. I know you just want me to be ok. Please, just pray and ask God to show me if I am being led wrong.â€
Her mom had just had that talk with ‘the’ Father. She smiled at her ‘sister’ and lovingly embraced her. She marveled with in herself at the mature young woman, Ella had become.
