Nabal was unemployed for the past five years after he had served his country mandatorily for one year. Every effort to secure a good job proved unsuccessful.
One day, luck came to him beaming with assuring smiles his maternal uncle Baniware, aka Bani, arrived from Abuja, Nigeria's political seat of power, to visit his, Bani's, mother in Iree city. It was during this time that Nabal ever knew he had someone who could secure him a gainful job in the country.
The man was the first son of his parent while the first daughter was Anike, Nabal's mother. It was Anike who presented the case to Bani who later invited the young man to Abuja a few weeks later where he temporarily relocated.
After about a fortnight stay, Bani received a call from one of his former colleagues, Eniola, when he was a public servant in Lagos. They exchanged pleasantries.
It was during their telephone conversation that Bani sloted in the matter of Nabal .
"Send him to me latest by nextweek Monday to resume in my office here in Lagos. You were a kind person to us when you were with us. There's nothing good and legal we cannot do for you."
Bani informed Nabal about his journey to start work in Lagos and he was happy for it ; his hope was raised higher.
"Soon, I will leave the unemployment market forever" he said happily to himself.
On the Sunday preceeding the day he was to visit Eniola in Lagos , he departed very early in the morning in a sixteen-passenger bus to stay in his friend's house.
The journey was a successful one until another colour was added to it.
Along Ibadan-Lagos highway, there was a notorious spot where the men of the under-world used to demonstrate their prowess . A Kingdom where they reign supreme: killing , maiming, robbing and raping.
It was becoming difficult to see the marks on the palm when the bus got to the place; the driver, knowing how dangerous that area was, stopped by near a man, who explained that his car had a major fault and could not take the risk of staying long in that place for security reasons.
People nodded in agreement except Nabal who showed no concern. The driver and the man stepped on his tail when he was begged to please draw nearer to others on the same seat directly behind the driver's. His eyes became red and face was wild and with guttural shout at the two men said,
"What do you mean? Have I not paid for my seat? Why do you want to cause an inconvenience for me? No way! It's even illegal to seat four people on what is reserved for only three persons.
Every attempt to seek his co-operation failed.
At the end, the man appealed to the two men on front seat with the driver and they agreed. They left for Lagos when darkness had enveloped everybody.
They arrived safely.
The following morning, Nabal woke up early to meet the man in his office; well-dressed in a way that any employer will love to engage him. He arrived the company early enough and was ushered into Eniola's office to meet the secretary. He was given a form to fill which was later taken into the man's office. After a few minutes , he was allowed to enter the his office.
He opened the door with smiles and the man was even radiating joy until both were face-to-face. The joy on both faces was completely wiped.
Nabal's blood was on riot in his veins and arteries. His body system became disorganized . His nose began to generate sudden hot waters. The man gently put off his pair of glasses and placed it on the table. He pointed to Nabal.
"Do you recognized me? " he asked in a low and harmless voice.
"Y-y-y-y-e-s sir!"
"Tell me , What I should do?"
You refused to help me yesterday when my life was in danger, if I had been killed by robbers, to whom will you come for job today! Advise on what you expect me to do?"
