We may get shaken badly pondering
When bad news stuns the media we soon blink
We want an answer but hear a false ring
Our son’s in the soup due to some bad fight
So we dread the phone call from officer
We fear receiving phone calls at midnight
Is parents’ health fine we react in fear
Fears real imagined can demoralize
Unkindly load us with unwanted cares
We sometimes muddle and fail to realize
We face palm and despair at heaps of cares
Fight flee or freeze is how we will respond
We hope to dodge severe pains and life storms
Imbued with loathsome issues we despond
Defeated we detest the fierce life storms
Bewildering events we can’t withstand
Can finite mind grasp God the infinite
Our trust begins when mind can’t understand
Come unto Me the living Christ invite ²
Events condition us to palm our face
Delight or dismay stalks us anyway
The Psalmists urge us to gaze at His face³
The dear Lord will stand by us all the way
Live by sight life is a fool’s paradise
We gradually lose track of our own race
Live by faith life won’t take us by surprise
Eyes firm on Christ we will complete the race⁴
Indeed He’ll give relief from our distress⁵
Indeed He will have mercy on us all
A quiet confidence to face life stress
Let the light of His face fall on us all6
O Lord You have the upper hand of life
Help us stay steadfast during earthly life
