Pick Yourself Up

I am so thankful that I serve a God who picks me up when I fall. It seems that I fail Him so many times, over and over. Lamentations 3:22-23 tells us that “It is because of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness.”

I find myself going to the Lord so many times saying “Father forgive me, I have failed" (AGAIN)! When we acknowledge our shortcomings to the Lord we do not need to keep making the same mistakes but we should strive to do better. We know that we will never reach perfection in this life but our goal is to keep on trying.

When I was a child I got a big, beautiful bicycle one Christmas. It was green, so shiny and pretty and I loved it. I could not wait to ride that bike! Much to my dismay when I got on it my short little legs could not reach the pedals. So I had to learn to ride without sitting on the seat. It was an adventure to say the least but I was determined! I would ride a short distance and fall, then I would pick myself up, scraped knees and all and climb back on and try it again. I got discouraged and my hands and knees bore the scars. Finally the day came when I could ride that bike all over the neighborhood and did not fall one time. I had reached my goal at last.

I find great reassurance in God's word that He will pick me up when I “fall” on my spiritual journey. Proverbs 24:16 says “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again; but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” (KJV). Then in Psalm 37: 24 we find this promise, “ Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.” and once again Psalm 145:14 promises us...”The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.”

My goal in my Christian journey is to hear my Lord say to me one day, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” So I strive to do my best day by day yet to often I find myself saying “Lord, I failed you again.” What a comfort and a strength it is to me to know that my Lord is not angry with me, nor will he condemn me. His mercies are new to me every morning. Great is His faithfulness!
