A blonde-haired girl thrust her hand in the air and waved it back and forth.
"Abby, do you have a question?"
"Mr. Johnson. does this chapter talk about how God created the earth?"
"Young lady, do not mention God in my classroom. Go down to the principals office now!"
Abby started to cry as she shuffled down the hall. Mr Johnson. followed closely behind.
Abby walked into his office and sat on the chair in the lobby. Mr Rehemer strode out of his office with a file. "Mr Johnson. What is the problem?"
Mr Johnson. waved his finger at Abby."She mentioned the name God in class, even though it's against school policy."
"Abby did you speak about God?" Mr Rehmer. peered over his glasses.
She wiped her eyes with her hands." M...mr Rehmer all I did was ask a question."
Abby slouched in her chair as the principal put his hands on his hips and glared at her."What was the question?"
"Does this chapter talk about how God created the earth?"
"Abby, there is a school policy about speaking the name of God in the classroom. Therefore, I have to call your parents and suspend you for two days." The principal turned around, walked back into his office, and slammed the door.

Later Abby's parents showed up to pick her up. No one uttered a word on the drive home. Abby ran straight to her bedroom with Dad on her heels.
He closed the door and sat down on the corner of the bed. "Abby, what happened today in school? They said you swore in class. I'm shocked that you would do such a thing."
"I didn't swear."
"Then what did you say?"
Abby put her pillow on her chest. "Does this chapter talk about how God created the earth?"
Dad rolled his eyes. "That's all you asked?"
"Yes."
"For that they suspended you? You have to be joking."
Dad covered his eyes with his hands and sighed. "Honey, you didn't do anything wrong. I'll talk to the principal."
Dad called the principal. "Mr. Rehmer, this is Ron Stevens. My daughter didn't swear. All she did was ask a simple question."
The raspy voice on the other line said, "She alluded to creation, which is talking about God which is banned in this school."
Ron sighed. "Sir, all she did was ask a question. She does have freedom of speech, doesn't she?"
"Sorry, those are the rules."
"Mr Rehmer, I'll see you in court." Ron slammed down the phone.
