Jess threw on another blanket as he got comfortable in his tent.

Then he heard a voice. "Hey Jess, this is Ted, how’d you like to spend the night on our couch? It's going to get down to zero tonight. I'm concerned that you might freeze."

Jess kicked off his blanket, crawled out, zipped open the tent, and stuck his head out. "Ted, you've blessed me by letting me camp in your backyard. My treasure is in heaven, not on this earth. The Lord has provided a tent, sleeping bag, a few changes of clothes, and a Bible that's all I need.

"I understand, but I don't want you to die of hypothermia. Please spend the night on the couch."

"Jess, you're shivering, I can't let you do this."

Wearing only a t-shirt, Jess’ hands shook. "Ba humbug, I’ll be alright."
Jess wrapped a blanket around shoulders. "I'll be fine, I don't need a roof over my head. I have a sleeping bag and four blankets to keep me warm."

Ted shined a flashlight on Jess. "Are you sure?"

"Go to bed, I’ll be fine. "Jess zipped his tent and went to bed.

The next morning, around seven, Ted went out to check on him. "Jess, are you okay?" Ted knelt down by the tent, but didn’t hear a sound. "Jess, this is Ted, are you okay?"

"hu…ua."

"Jess!"

"I'm okay," he answered groggily.

"Would you like breakfast?"

"I need to grab my coat." A few minutes later Jess zipped the tent open, crawled, and stood up.

"Joyce made homemade waffles, because Joyce and I were worried about you last night."

"Ted, I used to be on drugs and was a dealer. I had everything a person could want, a nice car, a roof over my head. Then I was arrested, but someone introduced me to Jesus. After prison I became homeless because there was no work. The Lord showed me that I didn't need material goods. It freed me up and made want to reach other homeless people."

A tear flowed out of Ted's eye. "That’s an amazing story, but I just want to help you."

Jess’ face glowed. "You let me camp out in your backyard, and gave me a ride to church. That’s all I need."

Ted laid his hand on Jess's shoulder. "Would you at least have breakfast with me and my wife? You’ve got to eat."

"Ted, I would love to."

This was a very good story. I enjoyed its simplicity but powerful meaning. Nicely done. Thank you. GOd BLess~

A nice story and spot on topic. Reminds me of the scripture that says "Godliness with contentment is great gain."

Reading aloud will help you catch things like when you said 'Joyce' twice in the same sentence.

It always inspires me to see the riches people once possessed that do no matter once Jesus enters the picture.

This is a sweet story. You did a nice job of covering the topic in a way many can relate to.

There were still a few mistakes that you didn't catch but overall you did a fine job.
