Ginger’s friends tried to be there for her as best they could by encouraging her to find God. Ginger had a different view than her friends on God, she felt they had never had to deal with life quite as she had and that God was not into the personal details of one’s life, but would be there for us in our eternal lives after death.
Her friends grieved for her loss in knowing God intimately and they secretly came together and prayed for her often. One Friday evening as they gathered together to pray, they felt a change was beginning to happen.
.........
Ginger’s family was gone Friday evening, so after trying to call her close friends to see if they wanted to do something and getting no response, she strangely decided to spend some time in prayer. She could not explain the heaviness that lay upon her, but she felt praying was the only thing she longed to do.
Immediately after a few minutes of uttering words she hadn’t said in years to God, she saw two people before her and wondered for a moment if she had hit her head and if she should call 911.
Both people standing before her resembled her in many ways, yet the first person seemed beautiful inside and out; but the other person wore many bruises, wrinkles, and her face looked like it was swollen from being beaten profusely.
The beautiful one came to her and said, “My name is Beauty and this here is Broken”, as she pointed to the other woman. She just knew her look came across in confusion as she stared each of them down with her eyes roaming from one to the other again and again.
Beauty didn’t give her much time to talk as she continued immediately, “I’m sure you’ve noticed we both resemble you in some form”?
“Umm yes”, she barely stuttered out.
Broken crossed the room until she was inches from Ginger’s face and said, “I am the one you are more familiar with”. Confused and in unbelief she replied, “I don’t think so, I don’t know you at all”.
Broken terrified her a little, with her face and body so worn down and Ginger didn’t know how long she had lived in abuse, but she looked as if she had been beaten everyday for years.
Beauty came to her rescue, as she took her by the hand and sat on the couch. She looked straight into Ginger’s soul and said, “I am who you wish to be, and there are parts of me you currently possess; but because of your hurt and bitterness towards God, you have built a wall between you and Him. He has never left your side, but you have continued to push His love away; not allowing His beauty to consume you.
Shock is all that could consume Ginger’s mind at the time. Broken came and sat on her other side of the couch. Ginger cringed in disgust as she allowed Broken to sit next to her. Broken touched Ginger’s face with her cracked and bruised hands, forcing her to look into her eyes. “I know you are scared, but God loves you enough to ask you to face the truth and realize I am you now”. Ginger cried in disbelief, not wanting the words to sink in truth; but knowing Broken was right.
She looked at them both in full understanding this time as she felt her tears begin to tear down the heavy walls that had caused her abuse for many years. As she blinked and began to wipe away the streaming water, they vanished and she wondered if she had been dreaming.
Alone with God, a peace came over her as she knelt and prayed in a way she hadn’t since the death of her mama. She felt God’s love as He cared enough to show her the true inner beauty she possessed and if she is willing, He will begin to mend her brokenness that she has bared so heavily on the inside.
