To dare to taste, to trust, to live—
To foolishly stick out one’s tongue
And chase a single snowflake
In the feathery, fluffy falling
To taste the winter and hold the memory in your heart;
In the fading of the winter snow,
To draw the sap out from a tree
And let the sweetness fill your soul
With hope for all that is to come;
To pluck a berry from the field,
To close one’s eyes and savor the richness of the moment,
To rinse one’s tongue with cool spring water
And feel the soul refreshed;
To wait for seed and soil and sun
To work their magic on the garden
And then to sample each life-giving gift
With a heart of gratitude and praise;
To choose to taste of gifts divine
And from all else refrain;
To open one’s heart to taste
God’s mercy and His grace
In every time and season—
To taste and see that God is good;
This is the life so sweet.
