Those poor Israelites, vilified by man and severely punished by God for complaining they were weary of eating manna three times a day. Manna--bread from heaven; how could they possibly complain?
Much of our world exists on one or two staple foods: rice, potatoes, cassava root, beans and tortillas. Yet, God created a garden filled with luscious fruits and vegetables for our first parents to enjoy. He created us with taste buds that delight in the great abundance and variety of food we enjoy in modern day America.
Would we not have been complaining about manna three meals a day as well? “Ah, for the leeks and garlic of Egypt,” they cried.
Taste, such a wonderful gift from God:
• Caviar and cornbread
• Tortillas and tiramisu
• Escargot and BBQ
A vanilla latte in the morning, and mint iced tea at noon; raspberry lemonade for dinner, and chamomile tea with honey before bed. Variety is indeed, the spice of our lives.
In the midst of our enjoyment of our world’s abundance of riches in taste, let us not forget the anguished plea of the prophet Isaiah:
Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.
Isaiah 55:2 NKJV
