What a beautiful world greeted my unbelieving eyes! Green and purple trees of all types and heights stood before me, adorned with a multitude of red and blue flowers covering their limbs. Pink and orange squirrels raced through their branches, sometimes missing a hold. They would fall but open their parachutes to land on the blue grass below. Peppermint and cinnamon perfumed the air.
Before me was my town, but it looked different. The sky was green and there were tiny houses of all the colors of the rainbow. People were walking, skiing, roller skating and windsurfing down yellow brick streets. Some were dressed in medieval dress and some in swimming suits. Some were in cowboy outfits and some were in Robin Hood dress and swooped down from the trees on vines. There were monkeys selling lottery tickets from news stands, and children were eating the siding off of a gingerbread house on the corner. I was thinking that I must get to heaven now.
“You can't get there from here.” I looked up into a tree and saw a small, pink-winged angel, sitting on a branch. “Some people go this-a-way, and some people go that-a-way, but they always end up here.” Then she smiled a huge smile, wider than her face, and she turned into a Cheshire cat.
I twirled my hand around in a circle and threw a light blue ball of cotton candy at her. She disappeared, her smile fading away last.
“Follow the yellow brick road.” A purple mouse was yelling up at me from my feet.
“And where will that take me?”
“I dunno. Worked for Dorothy.”
“How far is heaven?” I looked down the yellow brick road and saw a blue mountain on the other side of the forest that rose up through the pink clouds and out of sight into the now red sky. Then I heard the music, same title as my question, filling the air. I started dancing along the yellow brick road towards the mountain. All sorts of animals were on their back legs, dancing along with me as I went.
“Are you hungry?” Little Red, dancing along next to me, was offering me a sandwich from her basket.
“No, I must fly now.” Wings grew from my back and I found myself flying though a purple haze. My vision was zero.
“Hey! Can't you watch where you are going?” I had just rear-ended a Dodo bird.
“Dodos can't fly!” I retorted.
“Oh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.....” His voice trailed off as I heard him fall.
Just like that, I was out of the purple haze and found myself flying along in a blue sky with a World War II bomber. The name of the plane was the Enola Gay. “Oh no! I don't want to see this! Stop! Don't do it!” I was yelling at the pilot. He was smiling back at me, all the while opening the bomb bay doors. “No!” I was screaming as loud as possible, watching as his payload was dropping from the belly of the plane. But there were many bombs, not just one. Then, one of the 'bombs' came towards me. It was a flying monkey! There were thousands of multicolored flying monkeys filling the sky! They all had big jars of marshmallow cream and were throwing spoonfuls of the stuff down towards the people on the ground.
Everything went black. “you're off to see the ” That music. I knew that music. It was the music the Munchkins sang when Dorothy left their village. With my eyes still shut, I felt around my body. Apparently, I was in my bed. So slowly, I just barely opened my eyes to see through tiny slits. There before me, on my TV screen, was Dorothy, Toto, and her three friends singing their way down the yellow brick road. Whew!

white, with all the cute animals. I could also see shades of old Bugs Bunny cartoons,where the character realizes he is doing something he is not normally suppose to do. This was all wrapped up in a surrealist painting of words. I sure hope this is a winner!!!
