There was a boy I had met when I was very young. He had the heart of a giant, but the body of an invalid. He was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 10. This boy was Brandon. He was my life, my love, my everything.
I wanted to be with him forever. We would run and play and laugh as only 10 year olds can do. I loved this feeling of joy and fun. It didn’t even occur to us that his days were numbered.
As the months progressed, it dawned on us that he could die. That only made us more inseparable. We didn’t go anywhere without the other. It was always a pair, never just one. Every Sunday we went to church and as fall turned to winter, the soft white snow began to fall.
One day though, Brandon was sent to the hospital for his surgery. We were told he may not make it. My family and Brandon’s prayed in that hospital nonstop for the several hours the surgery took. When the doctor came out, he was smiling.
“Brandon is fine. He is one lucky boy.” I burst into tears of joy, thanking the lord. You see, God can do amazing things and, my most vivid memory in that was the snow, white and pure. Falling softly and whispering, everything will be okay.
