Autumn tends to come in a whirlwind of activities that dissipate into a vibrant mural of peace, which finally gives way to winter. Some people look forward to the subtle changes of autumn transitioning our attitude for the acceptance of winter. Of all the seasons, autumn is most important. For it is what you do during this time of year that determines what your life will be like in the coming seasons. The farmer and the gardener harvest their produce saving the best for seed in order to have an even more abundant harvest next fall.
The same principle holds true for us as individuals. There are autumns in our lives when we are supposed to prepare for the seemingly dormant days of winter. However, like the children, some are trying to hang on to the activities of summer. They step out of Gods rhythm, retarding the blessings for their lives.
Some miss the yield they have sown in previous seasons because they don’t recognize what season it is in their lives or they don’t recognize the harvest. Some are looking for a harvest when they should be sowing. Some are trying to harvest when they are supposed to be watering and fertilizing. When it is time for them to gather in the fruit of their labor, they either sit down waiting for the harvest to come walking through the door or they are out planting more seeds. While they are doing other things, their harvest ‘rots’ in the field. And even worse still, a few don’t even expect a harvest.
Jesus rebuked the religious leaders calling them “play actors” and “hypocrites” because they did not discern the time they were in. (Luke 12.56, AMP) Please let us not make the same error as they did. Let us discern and enter into our autumn harvest, reaping, gathering and “bringing in the sheaves” so that we can enter into our mural of peace in preparation for our winter.
We know the seasons of the year – when one comes and another goes. It is time for us, as Christians, to recognize the seasons of our lives and act accordingly so we can be the light and salt that draws all men to Jesus.
