We were married in 1949, and were filled with all of the dreams of youth. After 2 months of marriage, we had a rude awakening. I was pregnant. This wasn’t supposed to happen for 5 years, according to our plans. My father-in-law had given us some excellent advice, (we thought) on a great way to prevent pregnancies. Well, I guess everyone has the right to be wrong once in a while.
After throwing up for 4 ½ months, there was finally a reprieve from it all, and I felt better than I had felt before I became pregnant. It seemed like a breeze, and I expected delivery to be a cinch! I was going to have a real, live doll! After all, my mother-in-law told me that I was built to have babies, and it should go well. I didn’t figure both of my in-laws could not be wrong, or could they?
Finally, “D” day arrived, or so I thought. We got into our little Model A Coupe, and headed for the hospital. The cramps seemed pretty severe to a 19 year old! Well, that was a false alarm
A week later, I was to undergo the “real thing.” The severe cramps of the previous week had doubled, or tripled, but nothing in my body seemed to change. I lay there from midnight on Wednesday night, until 10:30 Friday morning, before that baby was ready to be born. I was sure that I was going to die! I was in the delivery room itself for a long time. I can remember repeating Psalms 23 over and over, and over, especially, “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.KJV” I was so thankful for those beautiful Words of comfort.
Well our new infant was a sight to behold! She had 2 huge dents in her head where she had spent all of that time pressed against the pelvic bones. I wondered if she would be an idiot! I checked her all over and she had 10 fingers and 10 toes, so, in most ways, she seemed to be normal. Well, it only took a few hours before the big creases disappeared, and she was the most beautiful baby that I had ever seen!
Well, that was the birth, but a 19 year old who has never been around a real baby very much (I was the baby of my family) had much to learn. It didn’t take long to learn that this new “doll” was not as cooperative as the last dolls that I had been accustomed to. She had to be fed, changed, walked with, weighed, and had many crying spells that I had no idea what she wanted. Somehow, God saw us through, and we recently celebrated our 60th. Wedding anniversary in Hawaii with this beautiful baby girl, and her husband, who have been married for 40 years. We all survived. God is so good.

Endearing article here and it brought back my own "challenges" in becoming a mother for the first time! We think we're all grown up...til life shows us the REAL stuff.
Good writing. A tad bit of editing would polish your writing to a smoother read, such as punctuation and sentence organization. Otherwise, you're doing great!
