Topic: Twilight Years of Life (07/02/09)
John slowly made his way out onto the porch with his iced tea. He carefully grabbed the arm of the rocker to steady him and paused briefly to catch his breath. He placed his glass down on the card table and then slowly sat down in the rocker.

Glancing down at his wrist he could just make out the time from the dim sunlight still shining over the railing on the porch. He was a few minutes early tonight.

John took a deep breath and looked around the front porch. His eyes caught sight of the faded yellow paint on the side of the house. Memories of years past flooded his thoughts. After looking at a dozen houses, Mary loved this one the most. All these years later, and John could still picture the smile on her face when they sat down for dinner together that first night in their new home. Mary’s piano still sat in the living room under the bay window. She loved to play and would often play on Sunday morning’s at the church they had attended together for over 40 years. John Jr. and Sarah both shared their mother’s love for music. John Jr. loved to play the piano and Sarah loved to sing. John often remembered the joy of coming home after a long day and hearing his children singing and practicing at Mary’s piano. What a blessing.

As always, the sound of Mr. Elliot pulling into his driveway next door brought John back to the present. A slight smile formed on his face as he watched Mr. Elliot grab his sports jacket and briefcase from the passenger’s seat and head towards the front door. Then John waited and listened… “Daddy’s home!”

Very nice descriptions here. You did a nice job of painting this picture for us.

I would have loved to have heard more - maybe some more detail about how John reacted to Mr. Elliot and his kids, or some interaction with all of them. Don't be afraid to add more detail in these articles - you can use up to 750 words, after all :D

Really enjoyed this piece - and I love that John listened for this every day.
