Steady winter clouds fixed with a heavy pursuit at emptying an awaited downpour.
Sure enough, showers fell with regularity. Steadfastly, needles of water pattered on the roof with expected rhythmic boost; music to our ears!
Raindrops shimmered as the headlights beamed high. I stared admiring at the effect and swift rescue of rain that was not intending to cease in compliance with the Creator’s command.
I couldn’t escape sounding dubious, but my reply to Pam’s question made her laugh.
She explained, “You know, gift of speaking truth...do you know it?”
I heaved a deep breath and let it out, puckering my lips upward. If Pam possessed gifts from the Holy Spirit, they certainly were “discernment and encouragement”!
“All I know is ... my “friendships supply” is dwindling. Aloofness seems to be their only common bond, Pam.”
One deeper sigh came, followed by an almost inaudible voice.
“I think... treading on this lonely road with this “gift,” leads to an empty, dead-end journey.”
Pam sensed sadness at my allusions. “Like my friend, Biblical issues are plain “black and white” to her. She sounds tactless sometimes.” With a gentle giggle, she continued, “But, any colour which truth or lie is guided by to suit man’s lame excuse with hypocrisy, my friend is bent to going in full conflict with complacency; not compromising Truth.”
She managed to comfort with her winsome and timely words: a fragment of the treasure of true friends God has woven into my path.
The Lord’s Day’s hymn singing, and both morning and evening messages were sufficient fill to my spirit. Whenever we visited Pam’s little church, it was always refreshing. I thanked Pam for taking us to lunch at her house. Anna and Tod enjoyed good play and run with Pam's own six ones during our walk at their hilly paddock.
Pam’s Tahlia nestled in her baby capsule. “An hour’s drive to your house will be a good time to talk. With my children constantly around us, we hardly had a sit-down talk. ”
The white car in front of us was slow. But Pam did not overtake.
“I was challenged by Brother Den about Samuel’s rebuke to God’s stiff-necked, disillusioned people. They were strong words, not meant to tickle people’s ears; full of truth and boldness!”
Pam quoted, “’Only fear the LORD, serve Him in Truth with all our hearts:...’”
“Samuel would not put up with ungodliness around. No standards, no change at all! Even the priests compromised!”
Off the gravelled road, we entered into our rickety gate. The drive narrowing uphill on our rockey lane stung my heart with coming home to an empty house; void of warm welcome on a wintery night.
“My family won’t be home until after midnight or so”
I had longed to empty my cup which was filled to running over of the Fountain of Living Water. But silence would seem to overtake me now.
Tod stayed asleep as I laid him on the sofa. Pam emptied her arms of my sleeping five-year old Anna into the shelter of my own.
With sisterly embrace, “God bless you, my friend. Be not weary in well-doing.”
-------------
Four o’clock, Monday.
Timely words, “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth:”
Clouds overcast. They poured out their water indiscriminately on our hillside. I felt that God has crowned His goodness upon me. Unworthy object of charity, GOD rained down upon my spirit and filled it to overflowing. I was in real want!
“Dear Lord, fill me O Holy Spirit, with grace and truth.”
“and if the tree falls... in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be.”
Death is at no great variance with distance to the shortness of life. If a tree be bent to fall, it will fall; and remains. In whatever affections my soul leans upon, eternity will determine which state my soul will be.
If I die in the love of Saviour Jesus and love for people, I will be found in acceptable glorious state in the Day of Judgment!
I press on. Continually bent and inclined to Eternal GOD; in the fullness of His holiness, love, mercy, heaven and Truth.
I shall fall in well doing.

I admit I got just a little lost. While there were great words used, I failed to link the ultimate point with the scenes.
I liked seeing the relationship between the two women, and found myself hoping that your MC would continue towards the Ultimate Goal.
Good job on entering this piece.
