Topic: Light and Dark (05/21/09)
THE LAMP OF THE BODY.

You can bear witness with me that counseling has become one of the most sought after services in our generation.
Doctors, pastors, lawyers, social workers, business consultants, psychologists are counseling people for a myriad of problems on a daily basis.
Problems demand answers, answers are used to give direction in ones life, no human counseling is hundred percent correct, it may work today but it may fail tomorrow.
Is there a way we can be sure that the counsel we have will take us in the right direction?
First I want us to understand that the Holy Spirit is the greatest Counselor, His counsel never fails.
Look at PROV 20:27, the Bible says “The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord searching all the inward parts of the belly”
That scripture is simply saying that God uses your spirit man to give you direction in all the affairs of life. How?.
In Psalms 119:105 the bible says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path.
Another one in Psalms 119:130 says “The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple (foolish).
We have all acted foolishly in one way or another; we have lost money, destroyed relationships, and wasted time because we didn’t have understanding.
This is the way it works, God knows everything so by His words through our eyes and ears he has framed our whole lives and put everything we need in life into our spirit man.
The entrance of His word brings light, that light starts by illuminating for us our paths of life step by step; until you come to a point where you are able to see the path clearly because of the word’s illumination
Let’s see how Jesus paraphrases the same principle in Luke 11:34 he says “the light of the body is the eye, therefore when your eye is single your whole body therefore is full of light, having no part dark.
But when your eye is evil your body also is full of darkness. See also verse 36
Jesus is comparing the spirit man with the physical eye. The eye receives light and is able to offer natural directions, the same way the spirit receives the light of God’s word will give us the right direction in life.
Jesus also introduces two more words which are very important, the word “Single” and “Evil”
The word “single” used in that verse means “folded together” or twined, he is referring to our spirit man being twined or folded together with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the source of all the counsel, teaching, comfort, help, direction etc, we need in life, He produces light.
Evil as used in that verse means hurtfully, pain and sorrow. Of course Satan is the one who produces such.
All what Jesus was saying is that our spirit man is capable of producing both light and darkness. It depends on whom we allow to influence our lives.
There are so many things we don’t know and we are supposed to know them, they are crucial in our navigation of this present life. The word of God produces light which illuminates everything.
Ephesians 5:13 says “But all things that are exposed, are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
If all things are made manifest by the light, it is evident that the things that are obscure, secret, covered, murky are made that way, by dark. Dark is the absence of light.
Although not every problem is easily solved on this earth, I believe most of the problems we experience are because of lack of understanding which is ignorance.
Problems in marriages, social interpersonal relationship, sickness and diseases, are sometimes the direct results of ignorance or being in the dark.
Most of these can be solved by applying the light of God’s word.
It is very interesting to note that banks apply light to detect fake currencies.
This is a spiritual principle applied in the natural and its saving them a lot of money and the economy too.
Spiritually speaking there could be so many forgeries in life by the author of Darkness.
Why don’t you apply God’s light to expose them?.
We are the sons of light; we have the capacity to make everything open and clear.

You make some good points about God's light here; however, the article needs paragraphs and correct punctuation to tidy up the theme.

a good examination of this subject.As you are contrasting the Holy Sprit as counseller with other types of counselling it would have been useful to look at the use of the Holy Spirit as part of christian counselling. Sometimes people need guidance from another person to be able to see and exeperience the Holy spirit especially when they are in distress otherwise some readers(who are in need of counsel) might be left uncertain as to how to find the light of the Holy spirti.
