Hot flashes began for me many years before being diagnosed as menopausal. A sudden heat began at the back of my neck. Believe me, that gradually opened doors to not only hot flashes, but raging wild fires!
In the approaching years my body felt like a thermostat listed for a government re-call.
At the height of my hot flash attack I modeled the layer look in fashions. It became a necessity; because one minute I felt very cold. So, I put on a sweater and felt nice and cozy. My battle with hormones continued; next I began to sweat and my face became sizzling hot!
Night time became a real challenge. Darkness is meant for sleeping, not for practice as a quick change artist! Waking hot and sweaty is bad enough. Quickly discovering you need to change your nightwear and the sheets is disgusting! Crawling out from under the covers you get hit head- on with cold, clammy chills! “This too will pass!”
While I pushed through my femininity tunnel, my husband and I owned and operated a Low Power television station. He daily had a camera balanced on his shoulder taping events around our city. He recorded meetings for Men and Women’s clubs, as a part of public service. At a luncheon group called “Open Door” community club, women had a lady doctor as their guest speaker. Her speech on menopause quickly turned into an embarrassing moment for him, and laughs for the women! He heard a crash course on the change of life!
Guess what? With age 60 becoming a reality next month I now have severe osteoporosis and a daily medication side effect is hot flashes! Here I go again! Hot or cold, I am a survivor!
