Please hear my humble plea;
I thank You for salvation
For Your plan to rescue me.
Your Son I’d like to follow
And become Your servant too;
Please come now and transform me
‘Til I am more like You.”
My prayer unto the Master
Was answered with a smile,
“Of course I will transform you
Though that may take a while.
For it’s my plan to have you
In the image of my Son;
But first you must have patience
If we will be as one.”
“O yes, my Lord and Master
Teach me all Your ways -
And I will love and serve You
Throughout all my days.”
So I waited for His Spirit
To work deep in my heart
But it seemed to take forever
Before He’d even start!
I waited and I waited
But still no sign of Him
I waited and I worried
That my faith would grow quite dim.
“Patience, Child,” He said at last
“Is what you’re needing, see?
You must grow that in your life
If you’d be more like Me.”
“Lord, patience is a virtue,
I know that to be true -
But how much patience do I need
To live my life for You?
Must I be like Moses
Waiting at the desert’s rim
He waited forty years until
You spoke Your words to him.
Or is it more like Abraham’s -
The heart that pleases You?
Do You require several years
To show us what to do?”
There was silence in the heavens
The angels were aghast –
Who is this insolent creature
Who would dare such things to ask?
I trembled at the thought of it –
Whatever had I done?
If I have offended Him
There’s nowhere I could run!
“Peace, my child,” He said once more
“Your ignorance is clear.
You do not understand my ways -
If you have ears, hear!
It’s not what Man has done on earth
That you should focus on
But rather My example
And the things that I have done.
“Abraham and Moses
Indeed had things to do,
Yet ‘twas I who waited patiently
Until their hearts were true.
I cannot use the heart of pride
Where Self is on the throne;
But humble hearts are My domain
My grace to them is shown.
‘Tis I who send the circumstance
To melt, to mould, to grow;
The humble heart who follows Me -
That’s the one I know.
“So will you learn my patience?
Will you be one with Me?
Will you take note of who I AM?
The Lord and Majesty!
For I am waiting patiently
Till all the world be Mine
When all will know that I am God –
The only One divine.”
