Other than the Heavenly Father
No other unconditional love in my world.
Questioned it? Doubted it? Never!
I always knew whatever imperfections
I might have had meant nothing to him.
He answer my little girl questions
With patience sometimes going out on a limb.
As a teen he made me feel that I never fell short
Of his expectations for me, in fact
"You exceeded them all" he would exhort.
"Better than some old folks" he would crack.
In our later years we would sit together
And talk and reminisce about the past.
Sometimes the past was all he could remember
But just spending time and sharing was such a blast.
Most people thought Daddy was serious,
But he had a great sense of humor.
We loved to laugh, even when it made Mom furious.
Secretly we would laugh just that much more.
Yes, my father and I had a special bond,
Some said it was because I was the youngest.
I say to all his children he was fond,
But I WAS his favorite and he did love me best.
My father was my first and last hero.
I knew he eventually would have to depart.
I asked the Lord how I could ever let him go,
When I knew it would break my heart.
The Lord heard my prayer,
The day He chose was much like any other day.
Daddy was sitting in his favorite chair,
I called him that day just to say, Hey!
"I love you Daddy" I said
And he said "I love you too"
A few minutes later they said he was dead.
At first I did not know what to do.
My comfort came when I realized,
Where he went to be.
He's with the Lord and I am satisfied,
'Cause now I have both my Fathers to watch over me.
This Father's Day will be my first,
That there will be no card, or tie to give.
Saddness, I will not allow myself to get immersed,
for this Daddy's Girl will give thanks that he lived.
