story about what happened last year.
I got off work at 5pm, and went straight to Sam's house, who is my tax person. Sam has always done a good job of getting my taxes done at the last minute. I got there at about 6pm. I had all of my
forms like my W-2 and my schedule D. It took Sam a hour for him to go over my stuff, and ask me questions. He said that he could have it done by 9pm and to come back at that time.
It was 7pm when I decided to take care of my hunger problem. I lived across town, and I decided it would be more efficient for me to go out to eat, instead of going home. I decided to go to Denny's. I
had the Chicken Fettuccine. Since I had some time I decided to have desert. Hmm, the lemon pie looked good, so I decided to have the Lemon pie. It was now 7:45 and there is a bookstore nearby. I
decided to spend the next 55 minutes there.
It was 8:40pm when I got to get back in the car, and headed back to Sam's house. I got there at 9pm, and he had my taxes ready. I wrote him a check, and I was off to the post office. I was going to
need to have the envelopes weighed because there would be additional postage.
I got a block away from Sam's house and I heard a banging noise. "Oh no, my tire it is flat!" I got the jack and the spare tire out of the trunk. I loosened all of the lugs, so that they were hand tight. I
started to jack up the car. I was able to get the old tire off. Although I needed to keep cranking, because my car was not high enough for me to get the spare on. Then all of a sudden, my car fell off of the
jack. I started to panic. I was thinking "now what am I going to do?" I calmed down, and I decided to call Mike my mechanic. He ran a service station, and he had a tow truck. I got him on the phone,
and he was wanting to go home. I was trying real hard to convince him to help me. Finally he agreed to come out and help me. I had been one of his loyal customers. I guess loyalty can pay off.
It was 11pm when he arrived. He had a professional jack and with a few pumps he was able to get my car jacked up enough for me to put my spare tire on. It was 11:15pm and I got back in the car and
was able to get to the post office.
The Post office was suppose to be open till midnight. It was 11:30 and it looked dark. I got out of the car, and went to the door. There was a sign on the door that said, "this post office is closed due to
power failure."
There was another post office that was more than 30 minutes away. There was no way I would make it there in time.
That is why I say, don't wait until the last minute to do your taxes.
