"I don't seemed to be going anywhere." "There's no one special in my life, I have no children and not much family to speak of." she thought to herself.
"Okay, enough of this talking to myself, that's not a good sign is it? she asked. "Oh no, now I'm asking myself questions expecting an answer."
As Patty continued with her morning routine she began reflecting on the previous year. It had been a very traumatic year. She had developed painful back spasms that eventually had taken her off work, which in turn had caused some financial problems. Then her beloved "Poppa" died, leaving a tremendous void in her life. Before she could begin to heal from that, other physical aliments waylaid her. And if that were not enough, she had felt herself drifting spiritually.
Until... thank God for the until. God sent a laborer across her path, to remind her that she was not forgotten and He loved her. In fact the laborer was a complete stranger, someone she had met on the street passing out tracts. She remembered before the year was out she was again raising her hands in praise and thanking Him for His goodness. She had found solace and healing, reading His word and fellowshipping with Him daily.
The more she thought on these things the more she realized what her main purpose was. It was to ultimately bring God pleasure with what she did with her life. Just as the stranger came across her path and made a difference, surely she could do that too.
Patty wiped the steamed from the mirror and looked into and said, "Dear Lord, I thank you for these first fifty birthdays, and I repent if I did not use those years effectively, but Lord I'm asking for fifty more so that I can be an effective agent of the Word and to tell others of your goodness."
Now she saw clearly why this birthday was different from the rest.
