This weekend I was in Holland for a reunion in our church.
From each person or couple, with or without kids, a photo was made, printed and people had to write a comment. These photos were displayed and one couple wrote that they met each other during the baptism ceremony.
The fruit of obedience to obey God's call to follow Jesus in his death and resurrection was in this case immediately evident - two people found each other in this sacred spot and received God's wink.
Years ago I had several discussions with a young man who helped us with the SOS-telephone as part of a 24 tele-helpline-service for people in need. He was from a Dutch Reformed background and baptized, like myself, as a baby. My parents and I had come to know the Biblical way of Baptism - by immersion. I told Jacob not to worry because God, in His time, would reveal it to him what to do.
Years went by and my wife and I moved to Israel.
One day, Jacob showed up in Jerusalem, and wanted to tell us that he had been baptized. Amazing, isn't it?
I took him around to see my new workplace at the ICEJ and what happened? One of our Dutch colleagues was unmarried and so was Jacob. They only met each other for a few minutes, made some small talk and that was it. But something had sparked between them and with some help from my wife in particular, the spark became a flame!
Through a Baptism service my wife found her way to our church.
A friend and colleague nurse had invited her to the baptism service.
The parents of her friend came along. We happened to know them and invited them to come to our house for a cup of coffee afterwards. Who showed up too but their daughter and my wife-to-be.
If you follow God's directions in your life on a daily basis, then you will see the right open door, whatever that door may lead to, baptism, marriage, calling to be a worker in the vineyard at home or abroad.
Trust and obey, for there is no other way.

Try to to more showing and less telling. Show us how they found each other instead of just telling us how they did. Show us how it was revealed that he needed to be baptized, rather than just telling us.
I loved the last line. It's one of my favorite hymns. (What am I saying? Almost ALL of them are favorites!)
