The room was darkening with the evening shadows of the branches of the sycamore tree just outside the window. The candles set flickering on the long roughly hewn table.
A fearful spirit moved across the ten men seated on each side of the table.
“James, quickly, close the shutters!” Andrew whispered.
James got up quickly, and went to where the huge wooden shutters framed the window. He pulled them to, shutting out the shadows that had once darkened the wall. Then he walked back to the table and took his seat next to Andrew.
The quiet stillness of the evening brought a quickening of the fearful spirit to each man’s heart. Those, who had once walked, talked and communed with the Messiah.
Now they were sitting shut-up in a secret place, fearful for their own lives. It had only been a couple of days since the horrible death of their beloved Master. Their hearts were heavy with great sorrow and now fear moved in.
“What was that?” Peter asked nervously.
“I didn’t hear anything I think you are imagining things.” John whispered.
“No! I’m not imagining anything. It sounded like a ‘whoosh’ of wind. I know very well what I heard.” Peter whispered in a strained voice.
Suddenly in one corner of the room a glow dispelled the darkness.
There right before their very eyes stood the one they loved dearly. They all became very fearful and in awe of what they were witnessing. How could it be, after all, all the windows and the door were closed and bolted?
“Is it a ghost?” James asked peeking through his hands.
Jesus walked over to them showing them his hands and side.
The fearful spirit moved out and a spirit of joy and adoration moved in.
Yes! Yes! It truly was their Savior and Lord.
