A white-coated doctor enters the room and talks softly to Mother. She cannot hear what he says but Mother begins to cry. All she knows is dizziness and pain as she stares at the white ceiling tiles and watches the bottles of solutions feeding into her body. She drifts off to sleep.
She wakes to a stranger’s voice speaking words over her as he sprinkles water on her head. Mother is there, too, but silent. What does it mean? She only wonders what is happening. She lay quietly and does not try to speak. It is too much of an effort.
Later that afternoon, Father enters the room bringing with him several people who begin to pray together over her tired body. They pray that she will live and be well again as she rests, still unable to comprehend the severity of the situation. There are seven of them, men and women she does not know, and they pray sometimes in unison and sometimes separately for the longest time.
In the evening, the doctor returns and seems excited about her medical improvement. In fact, he says to Mother, “We have seen a miracle today. I don’t understand what happened but it looks like she is going to make it.”
The nurses wheel her into surgery almost immediately and the doctor repairs her head and face, and sets her broken nose. She recovers quickly and completely. Two weeks later she goes home and, in a few months, she returns to school. She celebrates her 10th birthday while recuperating. The nurses spoil her in the hospital with ice cream visits and her teacher tutors her at home so she does not miss the school year.
Eventually, she learned about the story of that day and the miracles surrounding her. There had been a terrible car accident that morning when another vehicle carelessly forced the family’s car off the road. Moments after their car rolled down the embankment, a passing motorist stopped to help. He found the badly injured girl and, without hesitation, carried her to the back seat of his car. Mother later told her that she bled all over his car seat as he raced her to the nearest clinic. She had extensive head injuries and was suffocating on her own blood. As they sped to the clinic, he told Mother that he was a missionary who had just returned home. While the clinic staff fervently worked on the little girl, he slipped away without identifying himself. After the clinic opened her breathing passages, she was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital. She had been unconscious most of the day. The doctor examined her and warned her parents that she would not survive. He said the hospital staff would keep her comfortable but that was all they could do.
The little girl did survive and, after only one surgery instead of the three the doctor anticipated, she was well again. Father and Mother rejoiced in the joy of their miracle child and openly praised God that their little girl was restored to them.
Now the little girl is a woman and a walking testimony to the miracles that God sent one day to save a little girl’s life. Besides the combined skills of the medical staff at the clinic and the hospital, the answered prayers of seven believers against all hope and the prompt action of one returning missionary angel on the highway saved her life the day she spent in the protective arms of angels.
