Wet, cold, and exhausted – the soldier who is safeguarding our country, and away from home for yet another holiday.
Spit on, betrayed, and murdered – the martyr who stood up for her beliefs yet was killed because of those convictions.
Every day, all around us, people are going about their lives simply putting one foot in front of another. The drudgery of a stress-filled job leaves a sadness that envelopes a once vibrant being. Sacrifices, big or small, made by ourselves and others, and sometimes come wrapped with a smile.
Yet it is not always the broken who give of themselves. Although more rare, even some of this world’s affluent share their time, talent, and treasures. Thanks for being an example, and hopefully your behavior will inspire others into action.
Some of the greatest unsung heroes are those who can find the silver lining in the most desolate of circumstances all the while displaying an optimistic, hopeful, and cheerful attitude. “How might I help you?” is their unspoken lifestyle. Doing little things that can make big differences for another is their quiet way of helping to make the world just a bit brighter. God bless these angels. We need more of them all around us; those who can shelter us from life’s troubles even if with just a whispered prayer.
A family struggles as their five year old son undergoes chemotherapy. The mother who is torn between earning a paycheck that keeps their medical insurance active. A teacher who displays compassion and empathy for the child, who does not grasp why he cannot rough house with the other kids, finds ways to make the child find enjoyment during recess. A school principal who jumps over tall buildings to see if the district will lower tuition to help the cash-strapped family as her heart is breaking because of their family crisis. The faculty and staff that decide to secretly adopt this family so all three children can have a decent Christmas. Thanks for giving from your hearts and wallets. A community spirit that raises its strength, courage, love, and support to make life a bit more bearable: they are all unsung heroes. Bless you!
A child born in a stable; he only spoke the truth, yet was still crucified. He was sent to save us from our sins. How could he have known two thousand years ago the sins I would commit today?
Only by God’s design could he have sacrificed his life for me and allow me to be forgiven even though I am unworthy and unclean. He washes away the blemishes from my heart, the malice and fear from within my weak soul, and allows me to be cleansed by his sacred body and blood.
Christ is my unsung hero. Without his gift we would not have a chance at eternal life. Someday, just maybe, because of what Jesus did for you and me, we might actually get to meet God face to face.
