She held her hands tightly together. Squeezing them really. As if holding onto a rope for dear life. If anyone were to be watching they might assume her crazy.
But she kept holding them tightly. Until her nails dug into her palms. She was centered.
Focused on her thoughts.
“Let it go.”
“Let it go.”
“I can’t!” she said aloud to Him.
“Let it go.”
“I am trying but I can’t, I am not ready, I am scared to be free.”
“Come to me, get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest.”
“I need rest”
“Walk with me, work with me, I’ll show you how to do it”
“Maybe Lord, show me how. Show me how to open my hands and be free” she felt her hands relax just for a breath.
“I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you” Jesus persists.
She felt her body relax. She felt weight lifting. Comfort and trust surfaced as her hands unbound themselves of the anger she was envisioning. She slowly opened her eyes.
Forgiveness.
“Keep company with me and you will learn how to live freely and lightly.” Jesus promised.
Live free. Live lightly. She had never been more ready.
