Topic: Prosperity (05/11/06)
Prosperity. A word so commonly used today to describe one’s riches in wealth, or the standard of living in which one has become satisfied or found security in themselves. We are told, according to the “world’s” standards, that we must strive for the life of luxury and therefore become prosperous at all we do. That the only people recognized are those who have lived the prosperous life, or made a name for themselves. So, being someone who is not “prosperous” according to the world’s standards, how do I define prosperity? What have I done, in my life that has satisfied me, or caused my name to be known? Well, the latter, a name for myself, I care nothing about. Am I satisfied? Yes! Do I feel prosperous? Yes! Why you ask? I have found the one thing in life that has given me great riches that no amount of money could add up to, and that is the love of Christ! Through His love, and His love only, I found forgiveness, and was able to forgive. Through His love, and His love only, I became humble, that other’s could be exalted. Through His love, and His love only, I found the mate I prayed for a long time ago. One who loved the Lord just as much, if not more than I could have ever thought of loving Him. Through that love, I have two beautiful children, who are blessings and who make me feel like the greatest mom in the world. Through the love of Christ, I have learned that material wealth fades away, but the “prosperity”, or richness of love, shall last forever and ever. So, that is prosperity to me, and I pray after reading this, that is what it will be for each person, who needs satisfaction within themselves that they haven’t found in common wealth, or such as the world declares, “prosperity”.

I always appreciate devotionals that begin with a story to illustrate the message (give the reader a little bait). Perhaps, begin with your own experience and then write about what it means to you. God bless you!

Great message! Try breaking it up a little with paragraphs and blank lines. And I agree - an illustration or two help a lot. Keep writing.

Rather than defining prosperity, consider showing us prosperity, by showing vignettes from your prosperous life--make your writing sparkle! You have good mastery of writing skills--time to break out and make it outstanding.
