Must you pass a special test?
We like to think its some good thing
Special joy for us to bring:
A marriage that is strong and true,
Children that are a joy to you,
We are so thankful for good health,
Enough, neither poor nor great wealth,
Meaningful work, worth to ensure,
A home where we can feel secure,
Friends whose company we enjoy,
Lack of instances that annoy.
Now, at the beatitudes look.
You will find them in God’s book.
It’s good in spirit to be poor.
Claiming God’s Kingdom all the more.
How can mourning ever be good?
God will comfort, He said he would.
To be humble means we won‘t shun
An honest evaluation.
Hunger and thirst for righteousness
For a filling continuous.
When to others mercy you show
God’s special mercy you will know.
If you would see God face to face
A heart that’s pure must be in place.
If to make peace is your desire
Being called God’s child you’ll acquire.
To be persecuted expect,
The kingdom of God, your prospect.
God’s answer may not be our choice,
Still we should praise Him and rejoice.
The world’s values are different
Than what the Beatitudes meant.
Multiple choice they are not.
Complete obedience should be sought.
To follow Jesus is the best,
Only way to be truly blessed.
