I have been accused of taking a long time to pack
my bags. Also I am guilty of trying to put too
much in my bags when going somewhere even for a
couple of days.
Well on the first hand, I want to be as prepared
as possible to have everything that I might need
for important or serious matters. This of course
usually relates to clothing and the various
activities that I might be participating in during
my stay away from home.
For instance I would not wish to wear my Fred
Flintstone tie to Grandpa's funeral. However that
dusty tie would be perfect for church services
honoring Fathers on our special day, as it was a
gift from my thoughtful children.
I now spend several days in advance contemplating
the many choices I have of what to pack in that
suitcase...other than a suit. Sometimes I even go
to sleep pondering, sorting, and trying to fill
every little space that I can.
So as you can see, luggage has an important place
in my life and probably yours too.
Our minds are much like luggage. Only we take a
lifetime to fill our minds and there are no limits
in size or content imposed like there is at the
airlines.
Sometimes people will speak of a person carrying
baggage into a relationship. Well, my Christian
friend I am afraid that we have content in our
minds that we will be carrying to heaven's
judgment seat. What do you have in your mind? Do
you pack it full of worldly goods? Do you try to
squeeze a little sexual uncleanness into a corner?
Do you have hate hidden under your breastplate of
faith? Do you know every little dirty detail about
today's Hollywood stars? Do you sing songs with
Lyrics that would make your mother be embarrassed
by you? These are all some of the things that are
packed from your life in the luggage of your mind.
Do you want these things shown to the entire
world?
Would Jesus be pleased with what is in your
luggage?
When he opens your mind's luggage will he find a
dark smelly, moldy, rotten interior? Or will he
find a beautiful fresh air scent pleasing to his
nostrils. Will the light shine brightly from your
mind reflecting his image in the actions of love
and care that you performed while on earth?
Oh brothers and sisters, we are packing our
mind's luggage every day and hour. We think that
it is a private place secure from prying eyes. But
some day it will be revealed.
See I Corinthians 3:13-15
The way to pack your mind's luggage correctly is
illustrated so well in God's Word. Paul says in

TRANSLATION ( SECOND EDITION )
PHILLIPIANS 4:8-9; "And now, dear brothers and
sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on
what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure,
and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that
are excellent and worthy of praise. 9Keep putting
into practice all you learned and received from
me--everything you heard from me and saw me doing.
Then the God of peace will be with you."
