The world of a child is a small one, finding growing security in their family, house, yard, neighborhood and eventually school. Everything seems “so big” from their narrow point of view. They do not realize that at all of course, until they are grown and take a backward glance. It is only then that they recognize many of the places, things, and events that shaped them were truly very small in the scope of expanded observation. Facing that reality is a bit of disappointment; bubbles are burst and float silently to the ground.
As God’s children we view our lives circumstances as “so big!” We are impressed with big homes, bank accounts and mega cities and churches. I believe one day as we go to meet the Lord we will be amazed to see with spiritual eyes how small everything actually is that surrounds us here! Not only material things will be brought down to size, but also all problems will be shown as insignificant in comparison to God’s glory. We will experience no disappointments there due to our new keen sense of perception, just rejoicing in the overwhelming abundance of God's grace and creativity in our midst!
How big will things be in the New Jerusalem? “The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl (Revelation 21:21a NKJ).” How would you describe a pearl large enough to form a city gate? I would stand in awe and say that is “so big!”
