Squealing, Julianne leapt out of her seat and banged on the door to be let out.
Nana Bingle raised her eyebrows and her fists at the same time ready to pounce on Julianne.
“Listen to me Child, keep that never ending noise from your mouth shut, you'll wake the baby.” Nana closed her eyes slowly and pursed her lips using all her energy to count one to ten to stop herself from placing a fist in little Julianne’s plump cheek.
“Hey Nana” Julianne blissfully ignored the warnings. “I've my purse and my money for Jesus. Can I go give it now?”
“Wait one minute, we need to wait for the baby to wake.” she hissed and then prayed silently that God would give her a moment’s peace from this Child’s irritating stream of questions.
“Nana, when will I meet Jesus?” She gleefully asked eyes bright and shining in expectation because her Mama told her it’d be soon but she wanted to see what her Nana thought. Nana always became so irritated with her, Julianne knew it but Mama said to just be me.
“You'll be meeting him today if you don't zip those lips.” Nana always thought that kids should be seen and not heard but her daughter-in-law OBVIOUSLY disagreed.
Could it be, I'm getting too old for this.......blast! How do I answer when is Jesus coming to a child? Maybe she'll forget and come up with something I can answer.
“Will I know what he looks like?” Julianne relentlessly pursued for answers. “Will he be tall like Jimmy down the road? Oh Nanna he's so tall and big and I know he's going to be just like Jimmy.” Julianne dreamily looked to heaven.
“If I give Jesus all my money do you think he’d come to our house? Oh, Oh Nana! I've an idea, how about we send out party invites, we could send it to God and Jesus will come?”
“Could Jesus be a girl Nana? You know, Mummy said Jesus shows himself all sorts of ways.” At least she's not asking when he is coming now. Actually she hasn't even given one answer and she seems happy. Nana’s foul mood was starting to lift.
Nana wondered where on earth this child came up with such trollop. Who was filling her head? That daughter-in-law of mine had wilful views.
“I know Nana, I'll ask myself, shall I pray?” Will you pray with me, what shall we say? Oh I know, Mama lets me pray all the time at home so now I'll pray for you too.”
“Dear God, when you send Jesus back can he please come to our house, we can have a party for everyone to come visit. God, I love parties. Mummy says it's because I'm born to be with people. Do you think that's true? Oh God, do you think you could fix Nana's head as she complains it hurts when I'm around. (Nana rolled her eyes) God is there any chance we could get a picture sent down to see what Jesus looks like, I just know he's going to be big like Jimmy! Please let me know if you need my address.”
Thanks and Amen,
“Oh yeh forgot to tell you I have my money for Jesus”
Nana went to speak to stop this nonsense but Julianne shushed her. “Nana, shush. God's listening and we need to be quiet so we can hear what he says, Mama says we must listen carefully and give him time.” How about an Hour nana prayed but only half heartedly now.
A small while passed in silence and Nana wondered if this was Julianne's Mummy’s ploy to get her to quieten down for a bit....be quiet or you won't hear god! Ha, what a laugh. That girl might be wiser than I think.
Nana’s mood was slowly changing; take a deep breath she thought to herself.
“He spoke, he spoke” Julianne squealed again. “Yep he's coming but I have to keep my Nana happy first...shhhh he wants us to be quiet to hear all he has to say” Julianne ran to Nana and gave her the biggest hug. Her hug nearly dissolved Nana's bad mood completely as she realised God really was listening.
Nana's earlier prayer for a bit of solace must have been heard.
“God has a sense of humour” Nana laughed for the first time today..... Kids!
