Trudging through the snow;
As I toil midst mounding drifts
While flurries ‘round me blow,
A hope gives me courage within,
That promise that won’t die.
I bring to mind the future days
When from this land I’ll fly-
When warm days melt the ice
Away into trickling streams;
And summer yields prolific fruit
As sunshine shares its beams.
I hide these truths within my heart
And fix my eyes upon
The lonely trail before me, and
With hope I now press on!
A sudden gust of frigid cold
Shatters the strength of mine.
The pleasant thoughts and soothing dreams
And peace last but a time.
The stinging ice unmerciful
Has cast out the day.
The blinding winds unbearable
Cause me to loose my way.
Falling in despair I cry,
“When will deliverance come?!
This deadly bitter winter wind
I must flee far away from!”
Then when I think all hope is lost
A little sign appears.
A sunbeam’s glimmer reveals itself
To melt my frozen tears.
First the ice is washed to rain
And flees it’s sadly state.
Then a midst of green appears
As buds no longer wait.
After that the flowers burst
And splash across the earth;
Seeping fragrance through the land
Of glorious rebirth!
The trees are dancing in the breeze;
The meadow land abounds
With sprays of Rudbeckia
And birds melodious sounds.
A shock of joy comes over me!
I urge myself to rise;
For all around me life has sprung
From river’s edge to skies!
Summer has unveiled itself!
A happiness is cast
Upon my heart, for now I’ve reached
My haven land at last!
