We had no idea the sand dunes would be burning our feet on such a windy, overcast afternoon. My daughter and I always enjoy kicking off our thongs before our stroll onto the main beach. So the notion of not going barefoot was real let-down, and slowed our pace. Yet we soldiered on, taking joy in the coast banksias with their striking lime-yellow flowers along the way. The seaside opened up ahead of us, which had already been soaked by the high tide. However, the wind was still unrelenting and by now was whipping the grains of sand against our legs. Immediately this reminded me of a desert storm and the shifting sands of Lent. How quickly this grace-fulfilled season has gone by.
God usually gives me opportunities for spiritual growth when I least expect it; and there is still time to be able to seize the moment! I can still respond to my neighbour’s needs which at the same time free me from attachment to wealth and material goods. Through Divine goodness, Jesus calls me to journey with Him; taking Him to His suffering brothers and sisters. I believe there is a time and a place for everything and it’s important for almsgiving, prayer and fasting to bring an abundance of blessings for those less fortunate. Let’s value these 40 days with fervour; like it’ll be the last 40 days you’ll be spending with Jesus, barefoot in the sand!

What a delightful thought, to walk barefoot in the sand with Jesus. Well done Karen, well done!
