most Proper of all nouns,
not knowing words adequate
to speak of your kindnesses,
hear my amaryllis prayer.
God of Eloquence,
Pour forth, I pray,
your ageless articulation;
the soothing whisper
of love’s declarations.
Silence my stammering
to speak your comfort
thru my quiet listening
to a broken voice
weeping
in despair.
Almighty God,
hear your servant’s
amaryllis prayer.
God of Music,
Perform, I pray,
your rippling-rich arpeggios;
the full-notes
of love’s promises.
Apply your melodious touch,
in spite of my fumbling hands,
to caress with soft chords
one of earth’s
poor throbbing
instruments.
Almighty God,
hear your servant’s
amaryllis prayer.
God of All Hues,
Create, I pray,
on me a masterpiece;
the brilliant shades
of hope’s promises
Apply your glorious palette,
to illuminate this mortal canvas
reflecting the sunrise;
a prism outside
the empty tomb’s
delight.
Almighty God,
Hear your servant’s
amaryllis prayer:
Annoint me with the scent
Of Easter-lily grace.
