When the pathway you used hits an end,
Trailing up the hills,
Through the undergrowth, the dew and the mire,
Then all of a sudden a dead end!
What do you do I ask when the brook dries up,
The meat and the bread is no more!
What do you do?
What do you do?
When no one seems to understand your language,
When every move you make seems miscalculated,
What do you do?
What do you do when workers of evil prosper?
While the righteous languish and the faithful suffer,
What do you do?
What do you do I ask,
When friends turn foes and the trusted are no longer reliable
When confidants betray you,
When not a soul stands with you,
What do you do?
What do you do when you are falsely accused?
And no defense is in your favor
What do you do?
What do you I ask?
When they smile and laugh with you
While their hearts are miles from you,
What do you do?
Let’s assume you throw in the towel
Yah, just assume
You give up and wallow in self pity,
Let’s assume you curse, call names and suck your fingers
Yah, let’s assume you become critical, abusive and irritable,
Let’s assume you count it fate and the way of nature,
Let’s assume you know better than all
And no advice suffice
Let’s assume you are bitter,
You loath all the systems prevail,
Let’s assume you have bloated confidence
You do all you presume is right in your own eyes
Let’s just assume!
Let’s assume you sulk and brood
It’s well an alternative isn’t it?
But how far can this rail trail?
How much can you reap to your benefit?
But I will tell you what I know
I know of men of renown,
These taught a lesson in life never to be forgotten
Yes, lives to be emulated and envied
They remained calm in the Lord!
Jacob was one
Joseph was another
How about David the king!
Elijah the hero of faith cannot be skipped!
He came!
Though once he faltered
Ruth, Mordecai and Esther,
How about Jeremiah, Nehemiah and Paul?
All these and others in a frame as ours
They chose a rare route
One ignored and despised by many
Tread only by few and counted a loss
These heroes defied the natural and chose the supernatural
They chose to lose the temporary to gain the eternal
They chose mortality to gain immortality!
They chose not to look round about but to look up!
They chose to rest calmly in Him!
What a breed of men and women I ask?
What a rarity!
Their pathway was bitter but Glorious
It was stony and searing hot
Lonely and painful
But their vision was never distracted
They trod on beholding with their hearts
What eternity could be
These and like them their reward shall never miss!
Heights shall be their highway
Forever glorified they shall be!
In this world and hereafter
Their crown none can take
Let’s emulate them
Let’s rest assured in Him
Let’s be calm in the Lord.
