Topic: Fearful (08/23/07)
I always think I am a sleeper that is dead to the world. That is very true, unless there is a noise my subconcious doesn't recognize. Then everything goes haywire. That is what happened this morning. I heard the strange noise and was mostly unconcious. It happened again, and I am awake enough to recognize that it was a little odd. Then, the fearful nature of man kicked in. I swear, that is when the Devil gets my imagination. Its always in the middle of the night, strange noises and I can suddenly visualize the world ending, the strangers sneaking into my house, a raccoon downstairs, a large rat in the kitchen - anything is possible! In the wee hours of this morning, it was possible intruders. Living in the country makes me feel secure, except for now. We don't lock the doors, we know all the neighbors and I even leave my keys in the car. Intruders. They wouldn't even have to TRY to break in, they can just open the door. My heart rate kicked up about 30 beats a minute and I cracked an eye open to make sure my bedroom was still normal. Of course, I hadn't put my laundry away so there is a few laundry baskets, a container I hadn't placed in the correct spot but overall, no people! That is a good sign. I tell myself that I am just over-reacting, try to get my breathing to normal and realx my body. Oh! There it was! The unidentifiable noise again! Ok, now I know that I am the only person left in the house alive and it is just because I am a sound sleeper that I haven't been picked off. Maybe I should try to crawl across my bedroom floor to the closet and get my gun. Wait. That would be a brilliant idea if I could remember where I had placed my bullets. When I reorganized my closet, did I leave them with the gun or place them somewhere more logical? And I just got my new gun - I am not even sure I had the right caliber bullets! Well, thank goodness I still had my old gun! I crack both eyes open now and wish I could shut my fan off without giving away my wakeful state. I lay there, still as a board and wait for the sound again. Maybe it was silencer and they had just finished taking out the dogs or something. Oh, right! The dogs! Well, they definitely would have barked if someone was in the house. I am just creeping myself out for nothing. Now I have been fearful for .. augh! 45 minutes! I have to get up in an hour! I turn the fan on a little higher to drown out all the other unidentifiable sounds coming in and drift off to my blissful sleep once again.

You made me smile - I often feel the same way. The humor of the guns and dogs, was cute.

Might be good to break up the piece with some double-spaced paragraphs. Watch out for verb tenses, too.
