He woke up early in that particular day. It’s family day at their school. He was very excited and worried at the same time for some reasons. Still, he prepares his things and eats his breakfast. He will go to the school with his mother because his father is currently staying in their province for some legal matters.
Yesterday, all the teachers were busy putting some colorful decors on stage. Everyone was giving lots of suggestions on what to put on and the like. He was at the other corner of the stage busy looking at them. He was with his best friend, Mike, who was also busy nipping at the foods on the tray that was prepared for the teachers who are doing the decors.
He made Mike stop what he was doing. He was about to speak again when he heard Ms. Candice spoke at one corner. “Why do I always have to help them doing these kinds of stuffs, I already help them the last time?” she asked one of her colleagues while arranging the flowers on the vases. “It’s because you’re the one who’s good at it and we’re helping you around,” Ms. Diane answered politely. She’s Ms. Candice’ close friend since the latter worked in school.
He moved slowly, unnoticed. He wanted to hear everything. “Well, I won’t help them with the programs again or if I will, I need to earn money from it. Don’t you think its fair already just to get even with all the extra jobs I’m doing?” she exclaimed nodding her head slowly and grin at that thought. Ms. Diane protested and pointed out to Ms. Candice that it’s not good especially they’re Christian aside from being a teacher. Still, Ms. Candice clung on that idea.
He was astonished with the attitude of his teacher. Mike asked him what he had heard but he said nothing. He was confused even until he reached his home. He didn’t even tell his mother about his teacher for he wanted to keep it on secret. Not until…
“Mom?” he whispered.
“Yes my dear? Do you want to say something?” his mother asked cupping his face.
“Mom, what do you mean by “getting even”, is it bad?” he asked. His mother frowned at him. “Why do you asked? Is something happened without my concern?”
“Well, I heard my teacher yesterday that she wants to get even next time by asking money for the extra stuffs at school she’s doing,” he explained, “because she is always in charge for the decorations in our school every program,” he finished. He saw her mother frowned once more, with a deep sigh.
“Son, what you have heard is bad it was even taught in Sunday schools about ‘paying wrong’ for the bad things you’ve done to others with wrong doings as well. Did you tell someone about this?” she asked again. “Not yet, not even Mike.”
“Better, let’s see what happen but of course I’ll talk to your teacher first. One more thing, it’s not good also to do some eavesdropping okay?” she put her hand on his cheek and touches it. He promises to do so.
They arrive on time at school and he was happy to see that his teacher is at the Registration Section with a big smile on her face. He smiled back without hesitation for he knew that things will be better now.
