Following after something, though I know not why.
Hoping on something, though I know not what.
Chasing after meaning and finding absurdity.
Where are You?
I need you - or do I?
Hurt and pain are pervasive.
Please help me!
Are you there, or too busy?
I want so desperately the joy spoken of.
My life is a desolation, epic ruins on fire.
All is ashes blowing in the burning winds.
I want so desperately a strong foundation,
Strong pillars on which to build my life -
But everything is sand and sinkholes.
I have read of Your goodness.
I even believe in Your goodness, though I know not why.
My true desire is to experience that elusive goodness.
Please show me that You are here.
Please show me that you care.
Please show me even that you hate me.
At least then I would know that you exist.
I was really embarrassed with the poem that I wrote because it is so angry with God, and being angry with God feels wrong, but then I was thinking about David and how he was a man after God's own heart, yet he wrote some pretty strong stuff to God, as did Jeremiah and others. How can they get away with it, and even get it published in the Bible and I feel guilty for doing it? David’s anger was anger purposed to understand God more, not to whine and complain. The conclusion that I came to is that God wants us to know Him more and more and deeper and deeper everyday. Because we are human, some of the things we see in Him we don't like or don't understand and it makes us angry or upset. Expressing that to God is something good because then we are giving back to God the power to be who He is and not what we want Him to be. So while on the surface it seems like blasphemy, being angry with God can be a way to draw closer to Him.
