My head and my hands were empty; I really didn’t know what had happened. For the first time in my life, PJ the Private Eye didn’t have an answer. I always prided my self on my natural sleuthing skills, my self confidence and my ego.
I flitted myself out of my head and back to the crime scene. First, I needed to investigate the crime scene, interview the witnesses and determine a plausible conclusion. My feet hurried me over to the empty tomb. I took my notepad from my pocket and began noting every detail of the crime scene. My first observation was that of thousand plus pound stone rolled off to the side of the tomb entrance. The Roman guards posted at the tomb’s entrance lay unconscious upon the ground and great fear pressed upon their faces.
I jokingly replied, “This certainly must have been an act of God.” Later I would realize how true that statement would become.
I tried poking and prodding the Roman soldiers lying on the ground and was rewarded with a grunt and a groan. But their bodies still remained plastered to the ground.
Inside the tomb I searched for handprints, footprints, and a body print. Unfortunately, I could find no evidence; it was as if no one was ever here. The only evidence I could find was an immaculate white shroud fold neatly on the rock.
Originally, I’d first suspected that the body was stolen but I was really beginning to question my conclusion. I still suspected foul play but perhaps I would be more successful with the witnesses than my evidence search. I mean it’s not like the body walked right out of the tomb.
I laughed at my thoughts. I mean if a man could be raised from the dead then I was abducted my UFOs. I shook my head in embarrassment and began my walk through the garden.
The scent of fresh roses and lilacs filled my nostrils. It was the beautiful scent of life and living, not of the suffering and death that had taken place days prior.
My hand gently reached out a touched one of the hysterical women. Her head was wrapped in a white cloth and her body in a blue robe.
I offered her my hand, “I’m PJ the Private Eye. I am here trying to solve this case and find out where your friend’s body might be.”
“I am Mary Magdalene, “she whispered. “Jesus was a every close friend of mine but today he has become so much more.”
I jotted on my notepad at least now I had a name. I glanced back at Mary puzzled. “What do you mean he’s become so much more?”
She pleasantly laughed, “You mean you don’t know?” My facial expression told her apparently not.
“Today Christ has risen from the dead,” she said. “Just as he promised he would.”
Rising from the dead….okay…. I was beginning to question the sanity of my witness.
She paid no heed instead just continued speaking. “This morning I came with a few other women to place spices on our Savior’s body. When we arrived the stone had been rolled away and the guards lay outside the tomb. They had the most fearful looks upon their faces.”
I stopped jotting my notes and took a look back toward the tomb. The soldiers still lay in crumpled heaps outside. I shook my head and crossed them off the list as possible witnesses.
“Anyway, when we glanced in the tomb two angels appeared. They told us that Christ had risen from the dead,” she continued on. “We were frightened and didn’t know what to do. We cried because his body had been stolen.”
So my first conclusion was right. The body had been stolen… but what about the angels? My head was really starting to hurt.
My thoughts once again interrupted,” No, his body hadn’t been stolen. I saw him in the garden only moments later. At first I didn’t I didn’t recognize him but he knew my name and he touched my hands. I knew it was my Lord. “
“Do you have any physical proof, “I prodded.
She pointed to someone behind me. I glanced around my heart racing, my eyes filled with fear. It was him… the man, the missing body.
I pointed, “Are you HIM?”
He nodded. I shrugged. CASE CLOSED.
