Ringing alarm
Clock ticking
Coffeemaker rumbles
Glasses clinking
Plates clank
Ringing phone
A child crying
Snips of conversation
Bottles clang
Napkins rustle
Feet shuffle
Heels tap
Hushed whispers
Water rushing
Mind numbing
Silverware pings
Squeals of delight
Outbursts of laughter

These are notes of my daily song
A little off key
Out of tune
Forgotten words
And the only harmony
Is the corn I serve
But I press on in daily practice
Looking to my Master for direction

A quietness falls
Heaven’s Gate is opening
And I see instruments
Of every size and shape
Some I have never seen before
Playing

Then a harmony of
Thousands upon thousands
Of voices in worship position
With indescribable joy
Burst forth in song

In that amazing moment
My eyes, me ears, my heart and my soul
Absorb the magnificent beauty of all this
Unfolding in front of me
And
I weep

The Gates of Heaven are now closing
And I hear my Father’s voice
“Today you are a spectator
But one day you will participate
In Heaven’s song”

A door slams
Running feet
A voice calls out
“Mom, what’s for dinner?”
Oops
Gotta go
They’re playing my song
